Our Research

THE EFFECT OF WASTE FOOD DIETS ON MEALWORMS

In an 8 month study we explored the feasibility of feeding waste food to mealworms. This novel approach has the potential to eliminate 3 billion metric tonnes of CO2 from our environment every year.

BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC

Using the shells of the mealworm beetle we created a completely biodegradable plastic. The applications for this novel plastic range from textiles to everyday household items

STYROFOAM DIET STUDY

In a 3 month experiment we observed that mealworms could eat styrofoam. We plan to further study if this diet affects the nutritional qualities of mealworms.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY SENSORS

We developed and built custom sensors to monitor how temperature and humidity affect the growth and nutrition of our mealworms.
